The natural beauty of Bald Head Island is a blank canvas for artists. With brilliant sunsets, a lush maritime forest, sightings of painted buntings and miles of shore line, inspiration abounds. So it’s no wonder that when the owners of Watch Hill were presented with a blank wall in their island home, a spark of creativity and love for the island led to a family painting competition.
The competition started with no more than an empty
The Bald Head Island Conservancy is reporting a banner year for sea turtle nestings on the island - 116 nests and counting. According to Suzanne Dorsey, Executive Director of the Conservancy, "the last time we saw numbers like this, it was the last century." According to the most recent report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 65% of adults in North Carolina are overweight, and 28% are obese. It’s not hard to see why: The CDC also reports that only a quarter of North Carolina adults consume fruits and vegetables at the recommended levels, and less than half get even the minimum recommended amount of exercise each week.
