Make Memories Fishing on Bald Head Island

Fishing is a favorite pastime in Bald Head Island. Whether you’re catching fish or not, those moments spent with someone special are memories that last. The island has picture perfect scenery that makes an ideal backdrop for casting some lines or catching crabs. Even if you’re alone on your fishing excursion, it’s a great time to clear your head and relax while waiting for that nibble on your hook. There are a number of spots around the island to cast your line. Fishing offshore can find you some tuna, the creeks will provide red drum, and you can find pompano, flounder, and blue fish from the shore. Impulsive Charters will take you out on the water for some deep sea fishing. They have four packages available including kid-friendly excursions. 

If you’re new to fishing or just want to know where the best spots are, Bald Head Island Conservancy and the Sail Shop are available to help. October 4th through 6th, the Conservancy will host a fishing school. Friday will include a lesson of fishing tips, identification, and safety. Saturday will be a full day of fishing with an evening fish fry. 

Before fishing, make sure you have an updated fishing license. Every fisherman over the age of 16 will require a North Carolina fishing license. If you join a charter boat however, a blanket license will permit you to fish from the boat. You can purchase your fishing license here.

Crabbing is a fun activity for people of all ages. Meet at Village Creek Access for a Kid’s Marsh Crabbing and Fishing with Bald Head Island Conservancy. Reserve your spot ahead of time for the crabbing activities. 

Join the Sail Shop for a guided kayak fishing adventure. They’ll provide all the gear you need to catch some fish from your own kayak on a 4-hour tour. Grab a few friends as tours can accommodate up to 4 people.
