Celebrate the Super Bowl with MoJo's

Bald Head Island will be celebrating Super Bowl Sunday with great food and drink specials at MoJo’s and the Maritime Market, so if you’re on the island don’t miss out.

For those of you who like to get out and watch the game while enjoying great food, check out MoJo’s on the Harbor’s very first Super Bowl Party. At 3 p.m. on Sunday they’ll begin the Pre-Game party with fun drink specials and several small plates including NY cheese steak sliders, NY chicken tenders and NY taco spring rolls (can you tell they’re Giants fans?).  For dinner during the game, they’ll also have their large plate comfort food specials including house made manicotti, Super Bowl meatloaf and chicken Parmesan with linguini.

If staying in and watching the game at home is more your speed, consider having the Maritime Market feed your hungry crew. Chef Greg is offering a variety of party platters like hot BBQ jumbo wings, homemade potato chips, fresh veggie platters, chili and more. Or call the Market at 457-7450 and speak to Greg about customizing a whole spread. Be sure to place orders by Friday night for pick up on Sunday.

No Boundaries Opening Reception will be held this Friday.

The opening reception for the 2011 No Boundaries International Art Colony art exhibition will be held this Friday, January 27 from 6-9 p.m. at Acme Art Studios located at 711 North 5th Street in Wilmington, NC.  The exhibition is open to the public and will feature work by No Boundaries founders and local artists Pam Toll and Gayle Tustin in addition to 16 other artists working in a variety of mediums.

The No Boundaries International Art Colony is held on Bald Head Island each year, with artists from around the globe coming together to create art and be inspired by the island’s natural beauty. The 2011 No Boundaries Colony was held November 4-20th.

No Boundaries was founded in 1998 by Wilmington, NC artists Dick Roberts, Pam Toll and Gayle Tustin. The founders view No Boundaries as a step toward peace – the commonality of being artists dissolving all boundaries of war, nationality, language and culture.

The No Boundaries exhibition will be open at Acme through February 16.

Bald Head Island Ferry Terminal Renovation Begins

Posted By:
Posted: January 19, 2012

By Jim Henry

Bald Head Island Limited, LLC (Limited) will begin renovation on part of the Bald Head Island Ferry Landing the week of January 23, 2012. The project will result in a significant increase in the covered waiting area space, and will provide the opportunity for “pre-scanning” of ferry tickets for passengers at the Bald Head Island landing (something already done at the mainland ferry terminal at Deep Point).

The changes are geared toward improving the customer experience.  Beginning the week of January 23, Limited will reroute foot traffic away from the main passenger landing (Gate A) to the secondary landing (Gate B). Shown left is a graphic of the temporary path. The main landing and a significant portion of the brick promenade will become the construction site and material laydown area. Gate B will be the only dock in use for the duration of the project.

The renovation project will last at a minimum until April, but will be completed no later than Memorial Day. Your cooperation and patience during the construction to improve the Bald Head Island Ferry Landing is appreciated.  Questions may be addressed to Bald Head Island Limited’s Director of Planning and Construction, Jim Henry, at (910) 457-7268.

BHI Club Golf Course Makes Links Magazine’s Top Renovations List

Posted By:
Posted: January 18, 2012

The Bald Head Island Club Golf Course

Links Magazine recently named the Bald Head Island Club golf course the second best renovation in their Top Renovations of 2012 list, just behind Pinehurst No. 2.

According to Links, course architect Time Cate “widened fairways to improve playability in windy conditions, converted thirty-five acres of maintained turf to environmentally friendly sandy scrubland, and transformed the course’s green complexes—adding bunkers and expanding putting surfaces dramatically.”

The PGA Tour website also picked up the story.

Congratulations to the BHI Club on this well deserved honor.

News from the Shoals Club

Posted By:
Posted: January 10, 2012

By Jens Fisker, Shoals Club General Manager

Happy New Year to all, and I hope 2012 is off to a great start for you and your family. It was wonderful to see so many Shoals Club members and guests on the island during the holidays. We wanted to take this opportunity to thank all members for the tremendous support you showed the Shoals Club in 2011. Your comments, encouragement and great feedback are helping us to improve the Shoals Club facility, our food and beverage offerings, and our recreational programs for 2012.

The Shoals Club will reopen for the season on Friday, March 23, 2012, and we will be holding our first Members’ Dinner of the season on Friday, March 30. Along with more Members’ Dinners, we have additional Members’ Socials, Chef’s Tables and Wine Dinners planned for the coming year. In March we’ll be posting our complete calendar for 2012, which will have all of these great events highlighted, along with our signature holiday parties and special dinners.

While the Shoals Club is closed over the next several weeks, we’ll take advantage of that time to do a deep cleaning of the clubhouse and to take care of minor maintenance issues. We are also pleased to announce the addition of two new outdoor showers on the main pool deck—coming in from the beach, rinsing off, and enjoying the pool has never been easier. Along with contributing to the convenience of members and guests, the outdoor showers, which will have built-in “sand mats,” will help to keep the Shoals Club pools cleaner. Additionally, a handsome new wooden pergola is being constructed over the Sandbar Grille deck area (see image above). The pergola will provide shade for diners and will make enjoying a meal by the pool that much more enjoyable.

The Shoals Club remains staffed in the off-season, so please don’t hesitate to call us at 910-454-4888 or email us at shoalsclub@bhisland.com if you have any suggestions or questions. Again, thank you for your support in 2011, and we look forward to seeing you this spring when our doors reopen on March 23.
