Celebrate Independence Day the Bald Head Island Way

There’s no better place to celebrate Independence Day than Bald Head Island. With no cars, miles of beautiful beaches, and a calendar full of family-friendly events, the island offers a Fourth of July weekend that’s equal parts festive and relaxing. Whether you’re lacing up your running shoes, decorating a golf cart, or enjoying fireworks from the shore, here’s what’s happening during one of the island’s most exciting weekends of the year.

Start the Holiday with the Turtle Trot 5K

Wednesday, July 1 | 8:30–11:00 a.m.
Bald Head Island Conservancy

Start your long holiday weekend early with one of Bald Head Island’s favorite summer pastimes—the Turtle Trot 5K. The race starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Bald Head Island Conservancy and welcomes runners and walkers of all ages. You’ll need to register in advance at www.bhic.org.

Each registration includes a commemorative Turtle Trot T-shirt, and first-place finishers in every age group receive a beautiful sea turtle medal. Even if you’re not racing, it’s a fun event to cheer on participants while supporting the Conservancy’s important work protecting the island’s wildlife.

The Turtle Trot continues every Wednesday throughout July on July 8, 15, 22 and 29, making it a great activity for guests visiting later in the month as well.

Raise a Glass at Bald Head Bottle

Friday, July 3 | 5:00–7:00 p.m.
Bald Head Bottle

Ease into the holiday weekend at Bald Head Bottle’s Red, White & Blue Party. Enjoy festive cocktails, hand-selected red and white wines, and fun blue-themed treats while mingling with friends and fellow visitors.

Be sure to arrive in time for the special Bingo game beginning at 5:30 p.m. sharp, featuring prizes, giveaways and plenty of laughs.

Don’t Miss the Famous Golf Cart Parade

Saturday, July 4
Line-Up: 9:00 a.m. | Parade Begins: 10:00 a.m.
Marina Park

On Bald Head Island, golf carts are the preferred mode of transportation—and on the Fourth of July, they become rolling works of art.

Arguably the island’s most beloved tradition, the annual Golf Cart Parade, hosted by the Old Baldy Foundation, features creatively decorated carts in patriotic themes. This year’s celebration has new parade categories honoring America’s 250th birthday—“America the Beautiful,” “250 Years of History,” and “Party in the USA” —making it an especially memorable event. Register your cart in advance for $25 online.

Whether you decorate your own cart or simply find a spot along the parade route to watch, it’s an unforgettable way to ring in the Fourth.

July Fourth Celebration at the Bald Head Island Club

Saturday, July 4 | 4:30–8:30 p.m.
Bald Head Island Club

The evening features delicious food stations, games and live music before everyone heads to West Beach to watch the spectacular Southport fireworks display across the Cape Fear River. Watching fireworks reflect over the water from the beach is a uniquely Bald Head Island experience you’ll remember long after your vacation ends. Reservations are required by calling 910-477-5010.

Make It a Holiday to Remember

July Fourth weekend is one of Bald Head Island’s most popular times of the year—and for good reason. Between island traditions, festive gatherings and fireworks, it’s the perfect destination for families  looking to celebrate in a truly unique setting.
