Now Open: Cozumel – BHI’s Taste of Upscale Mexico

Tucked into the heart of Stoked Village, Cozumel is bringing bold, authentic flavor to Bald Head Island. This new upscale Mexican restaurant is more than just a place to grab tacos—it’s a fully immersive culinary experience, blending rich Mexican heritage with coastal Carolina charm.
Founded by restaurateur Ozkar Zaragoza, who also owns Si Señor in Wilmington and is a part-owner of San Felipe in Leland, NC, Cozumel is a family affair. His brother Eddie helms the kitchen as head chef, while another brother runs a sister restaurant in Wilmington, NC. For Ozkar, Cozumel is personal. “The name came to me while on vacation in Cozumel,” he says. “It’s an island that inspired me—and now here we are, sharing that spirit on Bald Head Island.”
From the handmade dishes and hand-blown glassware sourced from Mexico, to bar and tabletops crafted from stunning Parota wood, every inch of Cozumel was thoughtfully curated. Even the tortillas are made fresh daily in their very own tortilla machine imported straight from Mexico.
What’s on the Menu?
Expect more than just tacos—though the chef’s choice tacos are a standout, with rotating favorites like grilled steak, fresh fish, and savory pork. The house-made guacamole comes in three varieties, while seafood lovers can dive into fresh oysters, bright ceviche, and indulgent crab legs, all sourced locally.
Ozkar puts it plainly: “We’re serious about food. The seafood is fresh, the guac is real, and our margaritas—well, you’ll just have to try one.”
Craft margaritas are a highlight at the full bar, which stays open late until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays—a rare treat for the island. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing something to go from the convenient walk-up window, Cozumel delivers flavor and flair.
