Holiday & New Year Events on BHI

The holidays on Bald Head Island are marked by time-honored traditions, good food, and gathering with neighbors. From Christmas Eve through the first days of the New Year, the island offers plenty of ways to celebrate the season.
The Village Chapel begins the festivities on Christmas Eve, December 24, with two services. A 5 pm Family Service features a live Nativity and welcomes children to participate, followed by a 7 pm Communion and Candlelight Service with music from the chapel choir. All are welcome.
Next up is the Annual Champagne Tasting, hosted by the Maritime Market on Monday, December 30, from 2–4 pm. This popular event pairs a curated champagne tasting with a generous spread of chef-prepared appetizers. Space is limited, and reservations are encouraged.
Later that same day, Bald Head Bottle hosts its New Year’s Eve Eve Party on December 30 from 4:30–6:30 pm. Guests are invited to stop by the shop for caviar snacks, special champagne and sparkling cocktails, and an early toast to the year ahead. No RSVP required.
On New Year’s Eve, December 31, Jules’ Salty Grub and Island Pub hosts its Annual New Year’s Eve Party from 9 pm to 1 am, featuring music, karaoke, a cash bar, and a late-night menu to carry the celebration through midnight.
The New Year begins island-style on Wednesday, January 1, with the New Year’s Day Pig Pickin’, hosted by the Maritime Market in front of the Market beginning around 11:30 am. Plates of slow-roasted pork with classic Southern sides will be available alongside a Bloody Mary and bubbly bar. Pre-orders are encouraged, as quantities are limited.
On Friday, January 2, from 3–5 pm, the Old Baldy Foundation hosts its annual Sip on Soup Cook-Off at Jules’ Salty Grub and Island Pub, raising funds to support educational field trips to Old Baldy Lighthouse for Brunswick County fourth-grade students.
The week wraps up with the Howl at the Moon on Saturday, January 3, from 4–6 pm, held at Beach Access #39. Guests will gather for bagpipes, shared soup, and—weather permitting—a warming bonfire, as the sun sets and the full moon rises over the Atlantic.
For registration, reservations, and the most up-to-date details, be sure to visit each host’s individual website or social channels directly. Space is limited for many events and advance sign-ups are strongly encouraged.
