Your Bald Head Island 2022 Bucket List

Are you planning a trip to Bald Head Island this year? If you haven’t booked your vacation yet, this might help you seal the deal. This beautiful beach area has plenty to offer but we rounded up some of the things you can’t miss on Bald Head Island.

You most likely noticed Old Baldy, whether in person or in photos, the oldest lighthouse still standing in North Carolina. But it’s not just cool to look at. There are 108 steps to the top and this historic landmark offers amazing panoramic views of the island. Carve some time out of your day to get some exercise, take advantage of great photo ops, and enjoy the history. At the base of the lighthouse, you can take a walk through the Smith Museum and see some more island artifacts.

Try something for the first time like kayaking or paddleboarding. These are available to rent and can give you a unique view of the island. Paddleboarding is easy to learn as it just requires some balance and paddling, less intimidating than surfing waves. A kayak ride though the creeks can be so peaceful and if you bring your fishing pole, you might just catch dinner.

When you’re browsing Bald Head Island vacation rentals, you’ll find a vast selection with different sizes and views. Who knows when your next trip will be so while you have the time off planned and the crew is ready to join, go for the beachfront home. Waking up and walking out on your deck to listen to the waves crashing or watch a sunrise adds so much to a vacation. Save time to and from the beach when people can come and go as they please being just steps away from home.

One of the summer highlights for many is stopping by Mike’s Bites for an afternoon treat. It’s located at the Conservancy campus and has hot dogs, Italian Ice, ice cream, and sandwiches. Once you try it, the kids will be asking to go back for more as it’s been a popular spot during summer vacations.

Check the calendar for your stay and be sure to join us for Howl at the Moon. This is a tradition here on Bald Head Island that takes place every month for the full moon. You can enjoy a nice beach bonfire, Celtic music, and soup for everyone. Bring an appetizer and enjoy meeting your Bald Head Island neighbors. This is a Maritime Market event and you can get the dates here

The scenery here on the island is unmatched and we are confident that whatever you have on the itinerary will make for a vacation to remember. However, we wanted to share some of the popular things that people look forward to each visit. You have the whole year ahead of you now, choose your dates wisely!
