Things to Do on Bald Head Island: 4 Hidden Gems

The easy part is over: you’ve selected an oceanfront summer house on the utterly-beautiful Bald Head Island. The most time-consuming aspect of an island retreat is planning out your daily itineraries. Bald Head Island has a diverse culinary scene, 14 miles of beaches, a seemingly neverending natural park system, and, of course, historic Old Bald Lighthouse, so you’ll never have to walk or cycle too far for an afternoon of excitement, relaxation, and gourmet cuisine. Luckily for you, Bald Head Island Limited has a fleet of oceanfront vacation rentals and prime Bald Head Island real estate within minutes of the isle’s best hidden gems.

Restaurant: Delphina Coastal Cuisine

Some restaurants on Bald Head Island tend to overshadow the beachy, down-to-Earth Delphina Coastal Cuisine. Delphina has it all: artisan pizza, a seasonal “forest bar,” fresh-brewed coffee, and, the main event, coastal cuisine. Locals and tourists alike have fallen in love with their pan-seared mahi-mahi tacos, blackened seafood burrito, and Madrid-style shrimp and grits. Delphina’s delicious tropical cuisine and signature cocktails are just steps from the oceanfront Twin Peaks and premier Bald Head Island real estate!

Beach: East Beach

There’s no denying the allure of South Beach’s stunning ocean views and calm waves, but East Beach remains an underappreciated hidden gem. Two of our lavish vacation rentals, Coastal Beach House and Loggerhead Lady, both sit along East Beach, which is known for its prime boogie boarding and surfing conditions. The pristine beach itself is a quiet, undeniably beautiful locale, perfect for sunbathing, sandcastle-building, and swimming.

Adult Beverage: The Palms Terrace

The Palms Terrace at Bald Head Island Club is the perfect spot for a refreshing cocktail or regional craft beer after an afternoon of golf, croquet, or tennis. This scenic outdoor space provides patrons with sprawling views of the golf course, after-dark entertainment, communal fire pits, and perhaps the best cocktails on the island. We especially love the “Berry Spice,” a delicious concoction of tequila, freshly-squeezed lime, triple sec, blueberry puree, and ginger beer – yum!

Attraction: Bald Head Island Ghost Walk

After a full day of sea kayaking, sunbathing, and golfing, embark on a guided after-dark ghost walk through many of the island’s secluded shrouded paths. Tours start every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 8 p.m. from mid-June to mid-August. You’ll learn about the island’s ghostly history through a series of tales about lighthouse keepers, Civil War soldiers, pirates, and river pilots.

Oceanfront Bald Head Island Real Estate

Bald Head Island is widely considered one of the best places to retire in North Carolina thanks to its seclusion, beauty, and convenience – nearly everything on the island is a bicycle ride away! We are proud to welcome back distinguished author and NPR commentator Nancy Slonim Aronie on April 5-7 for yet another world-renowned writing workshop. Included in the three-day workshop is a private Friday-night lecture and cocktail party. Past participants rave about her ability to inspire writers young and old to “write from the heart.” The event will be held at the Bald Head Island Conservancy.
