Get Your Thrills on Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island is known for being a wonderful place to unwind and relax. Since there are no cars on the island, only bicycles and golf carts, the peaceful town is quiet and serene. This is an ideal location for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of their regular routine. But does this mean there is no action on the island? There are ways to get involved in exciting activities on Bald Head Island and here is our guide.

You can enter the king of all marathons in March for the Badwater Cape Fear race. The next race is March 16th, 2019 and features a 12 mile warmup on Bald Head Island roads, followed by your choice of 19 or 39 miles on secluded sandy beaches. This gives you plenty of time to start training!

Kiteboarding is an exciting activity and can give you a unique view high above the beaches. Lessons can be taken at Coastal Urge to learn board skills and riding techniques. They also offer traction kiting lessons where a traction kite pulls you across the sand to teach you the basics of large kite maneuvering. 

Bald Head Island offers over 15 miles of roadway to ride and bike rentals are available from Coastal Urge and Riverside Adventure Company. Plenty of sizes are available to suit the entire family and there are even baby seats and trailers available. 

Kayaks are available for rental and you can enjoy cruising the river with your family or friends to get a great view of the island. If you would like a tour, you can make a reservation with the Bald Head Island Conservancy to have a guide.

Sailing is one activity that many have on their bucket list but seem to never get around to. Sailing through the Cape Fear River is a must for a Bald Head Island trip. You can arrange with the Sail Shop to plan a Sunset Sail and let the wind take you through the river.
