Making Memories on Bald Head Island

Lasting memories are made every day in beautiful Bald Head Island. We recently invited our island visitors to share their own memories with us for a chance to win a complimentary four night stay for four guests. With the deadline for the contest being April 30th, there are just a few days left and well over a hundred entries in the running. Besides beautiful photos of families and friends, we have enjoyed the many stories submitted that have been full of history, first experiences, and lots of fun.

Janet Bain submitted a great “throwback” photo with her husband from 30 years ago. They traveled to Bald Head Island at the time to announce their engagement to his parents. Back before there were even telephones on the island, Janet’s future in-laws built a home on Cape Fear Trail. The family celebrated the big announcement with family and friends at the clubhouse that looked over the ocean at that time. What a wonderful engagement story!

Alan Holt sent a photo of his daughter riding her bike towards Old Baldy after choosing Bald Head Island as her senior trip destination over many other places because “BHI has her heart”.

Deborah Neves entered another photo of a bike ride by Old Baldy of her young daughter who says Bald Head Island is the most magical place on Earth, even after being to Disney World a number of times!

Among the many submissions, we were happy to see families who have been coming to Bald Head Island EVERY year for over a decade, family reunions for the holidays, honeymoons and anniversaries, and much more celebrations. There were also tons of firsts: first bike ride, first time fishing, first time at the beach, first time kayaking – what better place to have your first!

We have loved seeing the island through the eyes of others. Countless rainbows, sunsets, sunrises, clouds, storms, and waves were captured and sent in. Birds, turtles, dogs, and fish were among the entries as well. We have a number of Bald Head Island vacation rentals that are pet-friendly so families have been able to bring their beloved pups to enjoy the island.
