Bald Head Island is known as a laid back and calming place to vacation. Once boarding the ferry you’ll leave your cars and cares behind. But wait, you have kids! Relax, Bald Head Island is the one place you can connect as a family while unwinding from everyday life and still providing your kids the adventure they crave. Here’s 5 things your kids will love about Bald Head Island.

First of all there’s nothing cooler than getting to your vacation by Ferry. Kids don’t drive so taking off on a ferry boat ride to an island where bikes rule is right up their alley. You’ll see their little faces full of excitement as they watch with anticipation to the final destination.

Once on land you’ll find most Bald Head Island ocean rentals are roomy comfortable homes with full kitchens that gives families the freedom to enjoy the area. Instead of dragging the kids to a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can stock up at the Maritime Market on food items. They will even deliver so that the fridge is full when you arrive. The kids can grab a sandwich and run off to the beach while you enjoy a little quiet time with a cup of tea on the wrap around porch!

The beaches on Bald Head Island are beautiful and full of adventure! With 14 miles of pristine beaches, the kids can chase each other all day long! Build a sandcastle, collect shells or ride the waves on a boogie board. The Sail Shop Surf Camp provides group and private lessons for those 6 years and older.

A learning adventure the kids will love is a visit to Old Baldy. The first thing that greeted you when arriving on the island was Old Baldy rising above the trees. Kids can’t wait for a climb up the 108 steps and parents are in for the unforgettable view of the island. Stories of lighthouse keepers and pirates will light up their imagination creating the perfect circumstance where history meets fun!

Last but not least kids love the outdoors. There are so many trees to climb, forests to hike and wildlife to see. The Bald Head Island Conservancy offers children’s programs that include dissecting a shark, crabbing in the salt marsh and fishing on the beach. Learning about reptiles and spotting turtles are all included in the fun!
