Bald Head Island: A Bicyclist Dream

When visiting Bald Head Island, you must say good bye to your automobile and hello to a slower pace of life. Your only means of transportation are a golf cart, boat, bicycle or your own two feet. This along with amazing scenery makes Bald Head Island a bicyclist dream.

Navigating the island on a bicycle is invigorating! Ride through the marshes where an abundance of wildlife can be spotted. Cruise along the beach and take in a breathtaking sunset. Enjoy the town, riding from shops to restaurants and restaurants to shops! The gentle coastal terrain offers bicyclists an easy pedal, however with more than 15 miles of roadway to ride, the experienced cyclists can have an adventure as well!

If you decide not to bring your own bike there are plenty of options to rent a bike once on the island. Bike rentals by the hour, day or week are available through two island outlets: Coastal Urge and Riverside Adventure Company. Coastal Urge’s beach cruisers are perfect for toting your towel and snacks to the beach. You can also rent fitness bikes, tandem bikes, kid’s bikes, trailers and baby joggers.  

Riverside Adventure Company is located just steps away from the ferry landing, so you can have a bike in no time! They have multi-speed beach cruisers, tandem and adult trikes as well as children’s bikes with training wheels if needed and bikes with baby seats or baby trailers. Looking for a real adventure? Rent a Pedego electric bike and choose to pedal or not with assistance up to 20 miles.
