Give Thanks on Bald Head Island

Instead of your same old Thanksgiving traditions, shake it up by taking your mind off all your obligations to spend time relaxing with family and giving thanks on Bald Head Island.

Generally when visiting BHI, you’ll spend your time biking, walking, fishing, and lounging on the beach. Off-season on the island doesn’t stop any of those things, it just slows them to a perfectly blissful crawl.

Here’s just a taste of how you could be enjoying Thanksgiving this year:

Wednesday, November 25

Howl at the Moon 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Maritime Market hosts a free beach party each month when the full moon rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. The 2015 November howl party lands the day before Thanksgiving. Join the party at East Beach Access 39 on Bald Head Island and bring your own beverage and an appetizer to share. Maritime Market brings huge pots of soup and appetizers, too. As bonfires blaze and the full moon rises, the entire throng breaks into a collective howl. This event draws hundreds and is the perfect time to take a spirited break from your holiday meal prep. Sunset will be at 5:04pm with moonrise at 5:17pm.

If you’d rather sip a glass of wine, check out the BYOWB event at the Bald Head Island Clubhouse. Every Wednesday, year-around, you can bring a bottle of wine and enjoy it (with no corkage fee) paired with the clubhouse’s savory fare.

Thursday, November 26

Take full advantage of your vacation rental home’s kitchen by cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Head to Maritime Market to pick up your essentials and don’t forget the wine and beer. The market is located on 8 Maritime Way. In November they’re open 8am to 6pm Monday – Saturday and until 2pm on Sunday.

Want your vacation to include not cooking? Sounds like a plan! Instead, head to the Thanksgiving buffet dinner at 3:00pm at the Shoals Club on 100 Station House Way (910) 454-4888 or to the Bald Head Island Club on 1 Saltmeadow Trail (910) 457-7300. Make reservations early.
