Bald Head Island Ladies Invitational 2015

During the weekend of September 28th, 117 women golfers took to the greens to participate in an 18-hole tournament dedicated to ovarian cancer research. Despite inclement weather, the tournament was able to successfully raise over $5000 for She ROCKS, Inc. - the local charity of choice this year.  

 

In fun Bald Head Island fashion, the annual charity golf tournament is run on a points based format: 5 points for double eagles, 4 points for eagles, 3 points for birdies, 2 points for par and 1 point for bogeys. Any score over bogey gets zero points. This year we’d like to extend our congratulations to the 2015 gross winner, Mary Barclay, and this year’s net winner, Tiffany Hiller. The ladies enjoyed a beautiful round of golf, a nice lunch on the course, and well deserved hors-d'oeuvres and prizes after the round was over. 

 

The Bald Head Island Ladies Invitational has been running annually for 6 years - put on by the Bald Head Island Club - and has raised an impressive amount of money for select nonprofit organizations in the area. Finely timed with National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the charity of choice this year was the She Rocks local organization, founded in 2014. She ROCKS, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Wilmington, North Carolina that raises awareness and resources for one of the deadliest types of female cancers. Founded by Beth Quinn, an ovarian cancer patient, and her friend Mary Barto, She ROCKS brings awareness and attention to the disease through funding research and helping women along the way who are undergoing treatment.
