Bald Head Island Limited Mourns George P. Mitchell

It is with great sadness that Bald Head Island Limited, LLC, announces the passing of George P. Mitchell, who died on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Galveston, Texas, at the age of 94.

Father to Bald Head Island developers Mark and Kent Mitchell, George Mitchell was a visionary businessman, generous philanthropist, and loving patriarch. Up until the last few years, when his health went into decline and travel became difficult, he and his late wife Cynthia Woods Mitchell visited Bald Head Island regularly, celebrating every Easter here with family. While Mr. Mitchell was not involved in the island’s day-to-day operations, his guiding hand, unwavering support, and presence on Bald Head Island Limited, LLC’s board of directors cannot be overstated.

One of Mr. Mitchell’s lasting legacies is leaving the island community in good stead by laying plans to ensure the continuation of Bald Head Island Limited, LLC’s operations and services long after his passing. The company’s business will continue on as usual, but not without all employees pausing to reflect and remember a man whose accomplishments and generosity knew no bounds.
