Thanksgiving on Bald Head Island

Thanksgiving weekend is full of activities on Bald Head Island. One of the newer events this year is the Bald Head Island Conservancy's First Annual 2013 Fall Festival.  The fun happens from Noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, when the campus will be filled with family friendly nature-themed games and activities, new  environmental education programs, a scavenger hunt, hands-on discovery  stations, arts and crafts, live animal encounters, and more.  A Festival Pass is only $15 per adult, or $10 per child (free for those under 3) and pass holders can come & go throughout the day with their passes. 

The last Turtle Trot of the year also happens on Saturday after Thanksgiving. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the run/walk begins at 9:30am. The 5k race begins and ends at the Conservancy.  All registrations include a t-shirt, and proceeds from the event support the Conservancy's Sea Turtle Protection Program. 

The Smith Island Art League's Annual Thanksgiving Day Weekend Show will be held on Friday & Saturday after Thanksgiving from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bald Head Association on Lighthouse Wynd.  Art League members work in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylics, watercolor, pastels, pen and ink, photography, clay, textiles, dyes, yarns, metal and beads. 

Also, the BHI Artisans Show and Sale will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30th from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the BHI Club. Numerous unique handcrafted items created by island artisans will be on display, from beautiful handcrafted jewelry  to fabric art such as home décor, wall hangings, aprons, scarves, purses, quilts, handbags and tote bags, along with homemade cookies and candies. 

If you're looking for dining, the family style Thanksgiving Dinner at the Shoals Club is sure to please.
