Bald Head Island stretches from the mouth of the Cape Fear River to the point of Cape Fear, encompassing a myriad of diverse environments and delightful neighborhoods. But the pulse of the community is found at its gateway: a 10-acre marina and the vibrant neighborhood of Harbour Village that surrounds it.
Designed and developed in the tradition of seafaring villages such as Nantucket and Ocracoke, Harbour Village is a thriving community of picturesque homes with white picket fences and wide, welcoming porches. A couple of bed and breakfast inns share the harbour’s edge with several shops, waterside restaurants and a pavilion that hosts a variety of special events. The passenger ferry berths along the southwestern bulkhead, while pleasure boats of nearly every size and description occupy the marina’s slips.
A series of looping lanes and continuous sidewalks allows walkers, cyclists and in-line skaters to easily navigate the neighborhood, and the smaller waves off the river beach are ideal for swimming and wading.
Running the length of the eastern rim of the marina is Keelson Row, a street bordered by private homes and inns that will soon be home to four new exquisite townhomes. Three-story structures with four bedrooms each and extras too numerous to mention, Keelson Row Townhomes are grand in scale, yet they retain a coastal architectural style that is entirely appropriate to their charming surroundings.
At the harbour entrance opposite the ferry landing is another premier Harbour Village neighborhood. Named for its enviable position, The Peninsula is surrounded on three sides by water: the marina basin, the entrance channel and the Cape Fear River.
Both The Peninsula and Keelson Row Townhomes offer glorious vistas—of golden sunrises over expansive marshes, sea-oat covered dunes, shell-strewn beaches, and stunning sunsets over the Cape Fear River and Atlantic Ocean beyond.
