Maritime Classic Road Race Sets Pace for Regional Events

On Saturday, Nov. 8, runners and other fitness buffs from across the region will gather on Bald Head Island for the 24th Annual Maritime Classic Road Race.

One of the most well attended events in the region, the Maritime Classic is sponsored by Bald Head Island Limited and managed by the Wilmington Road Runners Club, which has managed the logistics and results of the competition from the very beginning. Attendance has ranged from 139 in the 1985 10K event to a recent record of 234 participants in all three events, the 10K, 5K and One Mile Fun Run.

"By hosting this popular fitness event, Bald Head Island has been introduced to a group of people who might not have discovered it otherwise," said Trisha Howarth, Hospitality Sales & Marketing Director for Bald Head Island Limited. "With transportation on the island limited to electric carts, a speed limit of 18 miles per hour, and a course that takes runners along seaside drives and maritime forest lanes, the island is truly a runner's paradise."

Registration for the race is available right up until race day, but early registration, by Oct. 31, qualifies entrants for a discounted fee of $35. After Oct. 31, registration fee is $45. Registration fees include round-trip ferry passage, entry fee, T-shirt, continental breakfast, boxed lunch and prizes. Reduced fees are also available for spectators.

For overnight accommodations, be sure to take advantage of our Runner's Retreat Discount for Nov. 7 and 8 at 20% off published fall rates. (Some restrictions apply.) To book reservations please call 1-800-973-8932.
