Islanders and Guests Celebrate End of Summer in True Island Style
This Labor Day, islanders and guests celebrated the end of summer in true island style—dancing the night away to live beach music, feasting on delicious seasonal fare, and enjoying the sights and sounds of Bald Head Island.
The celebration kicked off at the Harbourside Pavilion on Friday night with a Red White and Blue Shrimp-a-roo and music by North Carolina favorites, The Catalinas. With more than 550 guests in attendance, the event set the weekend off on just the right note.
On Saturday, a cookout at the Harbourside Pavilion, sponsored by Bald Head Island Limited and The Island Agency, featured the music of Key Lime Pie as well as games for the kids. Later that evening, the festivities continued at Eb & Flo's Steam Bar, where Key Lime Pie played well into the night.
Saturday night also saw more than 540 Shoals Club members and their guests celebrating the end of another great summer season at the Sixth Annual Shoals Club Labor Day Party. Members tripped the light fantastic to the five-piece band Charisma, who performed everything from Motown hits to beach music favorites, and dined on island fare such as jerk chicken and spicy seafood.
The extravaganza culminated on Sunday at the Texas Bar-B-Q. More than 800 guests enjoyed good old fashioned Bar-B-Q favorites like ribs and chicken while dancing to Raleigh's own Band of Oz.
"The 2008 Beach Music Extravaganza was the most successful and well attended Labor Day event Bald Head Island has ever seen," said Bald Head Island Limited Hospitality Sales and Marketing Director, Trisha Howarth. "We look forward to topping it next year."
