Oktoberfest Highlights Colorful Customs, Cuisine

For Bald Head Island residents and visitors, fall offers an abundance of occasions for seasonal celebrations.

Spooky Night at the Shoals Club kicks off another colorful island season of fun and frolic on Oct. 31, from 6-9 p.m. On Nov. 1, the setting shifts to the Harbourside Pavilion for a traditional Bavarian Oktoberfest. Hosted by Bald Head Island Limited and The Island Agency, the festival features traditional German fare, kids games and family activities from 1-4 p.m., and it's free of charge.

Then at 4 p.m., Nov. 1, kids up to 14 years old, and their parents, will form a Halloween Trick-or-Treat cart caravan at the Maritime Market. The caravan will wind throughout the island gathering treats from participating homes and businesses. Participants will receive prizes for best decorated cart and best costume.

Also on Nov. 1, residents and guests are invited to stop by the The Hammocks Clubhouse for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails and to learn about the benefits of fractional ownership in this charming vacation community.

November activities culminate with Thanksgiving and a delicious holiday feast Nov. 27 at the Shoals Club. Three seatings are scheduled for 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Enjoy all your holiday favorites, including Tom Turkey, with menu selections from soups, salads, entrees, sides and desserts—all for a cost of $29.95 for adults, $14.95 for children 5-12, and no charge for children 4 and under. Click here for a full menu.

Holiday activities continue through Nov. 29 with a Turkey Trot Fun Run on East Beach at 1:30 p.m. and Wines of the World Tasting from 3-5 p.m. at the Maritime Market Cafe, where a consultant will feature wines and menu pairings for all your holiday feasts.
