Pirates Land on Bald Head Island in Celebration of National Lighthouse Day

Yo ho ho... It was a pirate's life for all who dared to gather on Bald Head Island to celebrate National Lighthouse Day, August 3-4, courtesy of the Old Baldy Foundation and Bald Head Island Limited.

The fun began Friday evening as pirates arrived on Bald Head Island in a tall ship, just in time to scarf an outstanding buffet meal along with hundreds of families donning caps and eye patches. Festivities continued on Saturday with powder gun demonstrations, sword fights, a tattoo parlor, a Jack Sparrow lookalike contest, a cannonball water balloon fight and much more merrymaking and revelry, all to raise funds for the Old Baldy Foundation as it seeks to restore the oil house behind Old Baldy Lighthouse to its former glory. In all, more than 1,500 people participated in the weekend's events, raising nearly $30,000 after expenses.
