Vacationers who book a stay of one week or longer in any of Bald Head Island Limited's accommodations now through July 31 will receive a $150 gas card, which can be put toward getting to and from the ferry landing in Southport, N.C.
Based on current fuel prices, this can get travelers from Washington, D.C., Atlanta, or the mountains of North Carolina to the island and back without using any of their own cash for gas. That's because vacationers park their cars at the mainland ferry depot, travel to the island via passenger ferry, then tool about the island in an electric golf cart. In addition to saving money at the pump, island vacationers can also feel good about reducing their carbon footprint for at least a week.
To take advantage of this special offer, vacationers should call 1-800-973-8932 now through July 31 to reserve accommodations. Be sure to mention the Gas Free Getaway special. Vacations must be taken by Sept. 15, and some restrictions apply.
Slow Down and Take the "Turtle Walk Vacation Special"
Vacationers looking for an extraordinary, up-close experience with nature will marvel at the Bald Head Island Conservancy's "Turtle Walk Vacation." Those who book a week or longer for the Turtle Walk Vacation special will receive 10% off accommodations plus a BHIC Turtle Walk Package. The package includes a Friend Membership to the not-for-profit BHIC ($50 value), which allows up to four people to participate in a turtle walk. Led by a BHIC naturalist, turtle walks take place every evening during the nesting season. Participants have an opportunity to learn about this threatened species and perhaps to see a nesting female during the course of the evening.
In addition to the membership and participation in the Turtle Walk the package also includes a $20 gift certificate toward participation in any conservancy program such as kayaking, bird watching, or crabbing, and a $30 gift certificate to Turtle Central, the conservancy's gift shop.
