Bald Head Island Plays Muse at Second Annual Creative Writing Retreat

Again in 2008, the natural beauty of Bald Head Island will inspire writers from around the country at the upcoming Creative Writing Retreat, presented through the University of North Carolina Wilmington's Creative Writing Department. The event, which takes place Friday, March 14 - Sunday, March 16, 2008, is open to writers of all levels of experience.

The Bald Head Island Creative Writing Retreat features an intense weekend of writing workshops, craft classes, social events, and tours of the nearby maritime forest. The retreat will also feature a reading by North Carolina legend Clyde Edgerton and workshops by acclaimed authors Lavonne Adams, Karen Bender, David Gessner and Rebecca Lee. Each day features classes and scheduled events, along with plenty of free time for exploring the island, allowing writers to get away from the world and focus on their developing craft.

The cost for the retreat includes workshop registration, catered meals and a special Saturday night dinner event at the oceanfront Shoals Club. An early registration fee of $400 is available through February 29, 2008. A late registration fee of $450 applies from March 1 - March 12, 2008. Dormitory-style accommodations are available at the Bald Head Island Conservancy, and island home rentals are offered by Bald Head Island Limited at a 15-20% discount off published rates. To reserve a rental house, call 1-800-432-7368 and choose option 1. Be sure to give the referral number of 2S2545 or say you're with the Writing Retreat to receive the discounted price.

The Creative Writing Retreat is a cooperative endeavor by UNC Wilmington, the Bald Head Island Conservancy, Bald Head Island Limited and the North Carolina Coastal Reserve.
