1983, ownership, development and stewardship of the island has been
entrusted to Bald Head Island Limited, owned by the George P. Mitchell
Family, also known for developing The Woodlands, near Houston, Texas.
The Woodlands was named as one of the world’s finest master-planned
communities by the Urban Land Institute.
After more than two decades, the Mitchell Family remains true
to their original vision for Bald Head Island: To create a viable
premier island community where people may live in harmony with nature
and each other.
Bald Head Island Limited, staffed by more than 300 dedicated and
professional employees, manages real estate development and sales,
as well as island operations. Through a contractual agreement with
BHI Limited, the island’s restaurants and property management
program are managed by The Wilderman Group, a nationally recognized
hospitality company.
