Recreation Assistant
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Independently, creates, implements and coordinates daily, weekly, group and holiday special events; including the development of conference group programs and activities for guests of Bald Head Island. This position also helps with the maintenance and upkeep of the entire Shoals Club recreation facility. This position is afforded considerable latitude in carrying out assigned responsibilities and tasks, and often works independently with minimal supervision. The position works under the direction of broad goals and objectives and is accountable for success of the assigned events and programs, including financial projections and ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction. The role is responsible for hiring and supervising a team of seasonal employees. Employee must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the accomplishment of assigned responsibilities. Reports to the Shoals Club General Manager.

Essential Functions:
Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Shoals Club including: maintenance/management of all aquatic and recreation areas; recruits, hires trains and supervises seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers.
Maintains swimming pool operations and prepares related reports. Orders associated supplies. Coordinates & implements aquatic programs. Pool maintenance is part of a contracted agreement. Coordinator is responsible for management aspects of the aquatics program via this contract.
Plans, organizes, and implements recreational and special events programs including: children,
youth, and adult activities, VIP guest activities, convention planning, and sports events.
Develops plans and organizes special and holiday events.
Coordinates and plans activities for conferences and large groups.
Provides leadership for major island-wide tournament and Road Race committees.
Confers with management and support personnel to determine the nature and scope of programs to be developed; meets with leaders and assistants (seasonal employees and guests) to work out details of the various programs.
Plans and directs age appropriate recreation for special population persons. Works directly with individuals participating in the program.
Works closely with the Recreation Interns and coordinates their event plans.
Participates in administrative duties such as developing and recommending department policies and procedures; assisting with annual budget preparation and implementation; creating forms, checklists, and manuals; purchase orders; and program evaluations.
Prepares publicity materials relating to activities and special events.
Coordinates activities and events with food and beverage department, other community agencies, and/or organizations associated with special events at Bald Head Island.
Supervises or performs necessary preparation of recreational areas and ensures availability of needed equipment and supplies.
Manage and maintains fitness facilities at the Shoals Club.
Supervision of all related staff to the fitness facility.
Responsible for the maintenance of equipment, and the scheduling of all related services in the fitness facility.
Keeps inventories of supplies.Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in recreation or related field and a range of four years experience in developing and implementing recreational activities, two years of which are supervisory in nature and experience in developing recreational activities in a resort setting preferred; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (S)
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Basic First Aid training and CPR certification.
Must have or be able to obtain North Carolina Pool Operators Certification.
