My husband and I had a picture perfect week. He is a great cook and spoiled me every day in the charming little kitchen. We spent hours watching the sunset from the porch! Would love to see the add of an outdoor shower before our next visit tho...I might want to stay there a month if you did that! We love BHI and Captain Charlie's did NOT dissapoint! XOXO

a great getaway for all that stuff that life brings. Someone needs to check into the kitchen pots and pans, this was the only disappointment in our stay.

We enjoyed our stay on Bald Head Island. The Conservancy was fabulous - I strongly recommend signing up for some of their offerings. Kelly, the Educational Director, was most enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We stayed in Captain Charley 1. There was a deficiency of teaspoons, but otherwise well equipped.The rental agency was responsive when we made requests. The island is truly amazing.

The house is in need of updating, various things need to be fixed (ie there was no stopper for the bath, so our children could not take a bath in the shower/bath), leaks coming through the ceiling (we had to have pots and pans out to catch them so that the floor was not wet and to prevent slips and falls. Also, water flooding in through the front door when it rained, which led to our son having a bad fall. Also we suspect that there is mold in the air vents which led to my son getting sick while we were there. Overall, the house is sadly not in good shape. The rug in the living room needs to be cleaned or replaced as it is filthy and the rotten floor boards beneath it need to be fixed. The floors need to be mopped between rentals and the windows need to be cleaned as we could hardly see out of them - to see the view that we paid top dollar for! There should be at least a broom in the house so that we can sweep up sand. As it is a historical property and high prices are being charged, it needs to be better taken care of. Customer service was good when we reported that the brakes on our golf cart did not work.

Thank you for your review on Captain Charlie's 1! We apologize you were not pleased, we strive to have all of our guest enjoy their stay while on the island. We would have been happy to deliver any items you did not have, or could not find. All of our homes take on a lot of wear and tear during the summer, but we try to take care of any issues noted prior to guests’ arrival. The heavy rainfall throughout the week with driving rain caused problems with a lot of our homes. The floors are mopped, and windows clean prior to guest arrival, we would have gladly sent housekeeping back out. All three Captain Charlies have been tested for mold, all three were cleared. I am sorry, we hope to see you back on the island in the future. Thank you!

From the moment you ferry to the island this is a vacation unlike any other. The island takes you in and transforms your vacation experience. The golf carts slow the pace of life, the scenic views, lush wildlife and pristine beaches engulf the senses. Captain Charlie’s sits at the perfect part of the island and is a portal to a simpler time. We had a magical stay and can’t wait to return!

We loved our stay at Captain Charlie's 1! The location is ideal, with a beach walkway at the end of the porch. Always a fresh beach breeze coming through the screen storm doors. The management was very responsive and easy to communicate with. The property was clean (with the exception of a few dishes that had fingerprints, so we just ran a new load of dishes). If you're looking for posh and upscale "all new," this is not your place. If you're looking for character, location, history, peacefulness all in a neat, clean cottage, this your place. Nothing else like Captain Charlie's on the island. We look forward to returning!

They had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the house and location very much. The sunset views from Captain Charlie's 1's front porch, the ocean view and direct access to the beach made the stay one of our best ever on BHI. The house itself was what one would expect of a historic home, well updated, comfortable and clean. The kitchen was not as well equipped as we expected and the living room furniture, while basically comfortable was not as pictured on line.
Overall, we loved our stay and hope to rent Captain Charlie's 1 again.

We have returned to Captain Charlie's for many years. It is a wonderful way to escape the cares of the city. The location is spectacular with a full view of the ocean and as a bonus --- the only sounds you hear are waves crashing and birds chirping.

Captain Charlie’s 1 is a charming cottage located right at the ocean with breathtaking views. It’s very old, but has been renovated and updated over the years. The front porch and lower deck are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the amazing views.
